Uses of Images

Images contain information. But they also evoke emotion.

A “movie” as we have come to know it tends to be a series of images that present pieces of information in a determined order so that the story can be understood. Deciding how and in what order to present this information is an intellectual process known as “directing.”

But an image also evokes emotion. And working with emotion is a dark art. A film that harnesses the power of the emotional text of the image is a film that tells a secret story. And then it has the potential to become a powerful piece of art, more on the level of a great symphony than a “movie.”
