chain of waste, paradigm of death
jakob and i were connecting these dots last night:
agricultural subsidies = meat and other bad food (corn syrup) is too cheap = people are obese = health care costs
oil subsidies = gas is too cheap = people drive too much = people are obese = health care costs
agricultural subsidies + oil subsidies = meat and oil are too cheap = overuse and overproduction = excess greenhouse gases = global warming
it seems that if we really were living in a true free market economy, a lot of these problems would solve themselves…….
these subsidies exist because of the persistence of a WWII, militaristic paradigm that is rooted in suspicion and fear. in other words, a death paradigm. so is it any surprise that the number one casualty of this model is LIFE?
