my e-mail response to jakob: be careful of throwing away all those old notebooks. a few years back i burned 6 composition books i kept during college and in particular during a very dark period in 02/03. at the time it felt like a release, like those books were a physical representation of the past and by burning them i could be finished with the past. but it turns out the past remains part of my present and future. they all live in one room together (i think i stole this from dylan via todd haynes). and now i just wish i had all of those drawings, lyrics, and theories back…
